Veterans & Military Families Caucus

Democratic Party of New Mexico

Message From the Chair

The necessity for clarity, accountability, and defined objectives.

April 1, 2026

Frank J. Smith

Dear Caucus Members,

As we enter April, we find ourselves at a consequential moment for both our nation and our state.

The ongoing conflict involving the United States and Iran has entered its second month. With American service members killed and wounded, the situation remains fluid, carrying the potential for further escalation or diplomacy. We remain focused on the safety, readiness, and support of our service members and their families, as well as the necessity for clarity, accountability, and defined objectives in any sustained military engagement.

Locally, I want to thank our Committee on Veterans Advocacy team for completing this year’s legislative report card. This work provides a clear, fact-based assessment of how legislation impacts veterans and military families in New Mexico, reflecting our commitment to results over rhetoric.

With the legislative session behind us, attention now turns to the upcoming midterm primaries. These elections will shape decisions that directly affect veterans, military families, and national security. Your participation, whether through voting, volunteering, or informing others, is vital.

Veterans understand both the cost of war and the responsibility of citizenship. Our Caucus will continue to monitor developments and provide fact-based updates as events unfold.

Thank you for your continued commitment and service.

Semper Fi,
