Dear Caucus Members,

This month, our collective heart is heavy as we mourn the loss of Alex Pretti.

Alex was more than a dedicated professional; he was a lifeline for our nation’s Veterans. As an ICU nurse at the Minneapolis VA Medical Center, he spent his days and nights providing critical care to veterans in their most vulnerable moments. His colleagues and patients alike knew him for the profound compassion and technical skill he brought to the mission of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

His tragic death during a federal enforcement operation has left a void in the medical community and among the veteran families he served. This past Sunday, communities across the country gathered for a nationwide memorial service to honor his life and sacrifice. While the Department of Justice continues its civil rights investigation into the incident, we stand united in ensuring that Alex’s legacy of service is never forgotten.

We remain committed to advocating for the safety of all healthcare workers who, like Alex, dedicate their lives to those who served.
